COACHING TO ACHIEVE COHERENCE
Think about the last time you saw someone delivering a presentation: a leader in your company or community, defending a point of view, offering arguments and interacting with the audience.
How did you feel? Engaged, attentive, motivated? Or did you wish you could use your time to do something else?
No matter how much executives are trained in public speaking, the reality of corporate presentations remains the same: they generate little engagement. Much of this is driven by training programs that overestimate the importance of the content and speech, while ignoring the emotions and presence of the speaker.
Presentations are moments when an attentive observer can tell whether or not there is “magic” on the part of the speaker. This “magic” is what I call COHERENCE, the ability to align and converge what is being said (mind), felt (emotions) and how this affects the speaker´ stage presence (body).
For example, someone who is presenting an idea that has been imposed by a boss, in which he himself does not believe, will suffer during the presentation. This lack of coherence is often perceived by the audience. It seems that the information on the slide and the speech are not aligned with the presenter’s emotions. Something feels off…
COHERENCE is effective when it comes to public presentations, and also in other areas of life, such as: how we relate to other people and to ourselves, on how we communicate, how we educate our children through the power of example, how we lead a team or play an active role in the community.
